In working with natural laws and
natural principle, we would not advise, generally, suppression
of a discharge because this is the body's natural means of
getting rid of toxic material. Suppressing symptoms simply
drives the catarrh and toxins back into the tissue. This creates
an even more dangerous situation than before, because it forces
a toxic irritant to remain in contact with vital, living tissue.
When we find dark lesions in the
lung and bronchial areas, a program is needed to awaken and
strengthen these tissues in order to liquefy and throw off the
toxic material settled there.
As this liquefying takes place,
the catarrh begins to run and familiar symptoms develop -
running nose, fever, coughing and so forth. This is the healing
crisis which the natural healing arts hold in such esteem.
Dr. Henry Lindlahr once said,
"Give me a healing crisis and I will cure any disease". We have
strengthened the body to a level where it is able to throw off
the material causing the problem, and this is the most effective
way of taking care of the human body.
It is nature's way. Healing crises are sometimes short and intense,
perhaps a few days, and they come immediately after the patient
has worked his way to a peak of well-being through right eating
and right living. Sometimes, they are longer and recurring, as
in the case of back pain.
Hair
If for example, someone is
weakening his lungs by taking too much yin foods, his hair will
start to recede in the front. It is possible for the hair to
grow back if the person eats wisely. Some people lose a lot of
hair when they begin eating healthily, but this is only bad
quality hair; good hair grows in later.
It is normal for a fibroid, cysts
or tumors patients to discover that the fibroid has actually
grown in size in the first few weeks of following the diet. This
is because as the fibroid gets softer, it gets slightly larger.
This is called the healing crisis. This is very much like
soaking a dry sponge in water, it gets softer, but it also
initially swells in size. This is only temporary, and the body
begins to dissolve the fibroid and discharge its contents
gradually out of the body, and that is when it begins to get
smaller in size. It is recommended that you perform an
ultrasound every 3-4 months when following this diet.
Recovering from diarrhea occurs
almost always in a fluctuating pattern. The patient goes through
a few days of feeling terrific with no diarrhea, followed by a
day or two of severe diarrhea. This is normal. With the right
foods, the body slowly builds up strength. After a few days of
building up strength, a large amount of toxins are discharged in
the form of diarrhea. Eventually, the frequency and duration of
diarrhea bouts recede until they eventually cease completely.
The healing crisis for a constipation patient rarely occurs. Within just
a few days (sometime only 1-2 days) constipation, which the
patient has been suffering from for years and sometimes for a
lifetime, is alleviated and the bowel movement returns to
normal. Some patients think it miraculous because the relief
occurs very quickly. Sometimes a constipation patient gets
diarrhea after starting on the diet, but this is always welcome
by a constipation patient so we would not call it a healing
crisis.
Some patients experience a rise in
blood cholesterol and/or triglycerides during the first few
weeks of following a healthy diet plan. The new healthy diet
does not contain any cholesterol or triglycerides, so where does
this rise come from? This is part of the healing crisis in which
large amounts of fat begin to dissolve from body tissue and
enter the blood stream before being discharged from the body
through the kidneys and GI tract. Walking and moderate form of
exercise for an extended period of time daily is important in
reducing blood fat content and mitigating the healing crisis.
The recommended type and duration of exercise for you is
indicated in your diet plan.
