? Cytomegalovirus (CMV): a virus that causes mononucleosis-type illness.

? Human herpes virus-6 (HHV-6).

? Human herpes virus-7 (HHV-7): a virus associated with mononucleosis.

There are medications that have been claimed to lessen the severity of a herpes attack . But this is not proven. These drugs have many side effects. Sometimes herpes is treated externally by ointments and external applications that do not cure the illness but make the skin more comfortable.

The conventional medical treatment for herpes virus infections is several anti-viral drugs and an assortment of drugs that provide only symptomatic relief. These drugs suppress the virus reducing the severity and frequency of outbreaks but do not eliminate it from the body. On-going drug therapy is supposed to keep the virus in remission for some individuals.
