What is the macrobiotics diet number seven (# 7)  

No other natural health and treatment method has been met with either passionate embrace or fierce opposition than macrobiotics, especially the macrobiotic diet number seven (#7).

Macrobiotics diet number seven (#7) recommends eating only brown rice with a little sesame salt (sesame salt is called Gomashio in macrobiotics cooking books) for a period of days, sometimes weeks and sometimes months. This allegedly helps cleanse the body of accumulated toxins and disease. But is this reasonable? Especially in our modern highly polluted world with so many diseases.

Does the macrobiotic diet number seven #7 really help?  

Diet #7 does not cure any disease especially infections.

Patients with typhoid, herpes or lyme disease could suffer severe acid refluxes on the macrobiotics number seven diet? These patients condition will deteriorate on the number seven (#7) diet.

We have had consultations with many patients suffering from various diseases who followed the number seven (#7) diet prior to consulting with us. Their condition either did not improve or got worse on the number seven (#7) diet.

Diseases that would deteriorate on the number seven diet

Hyper-thyroid, typhoid, inflammatory dowel disease, eczema, gangrene, lyme disease, syphilis, peptic ulcers, lupus, tuberculosis and many other diseases.

Disadvantages of the macrobiotic number seven diet (#7)  

Eating only brown rice for days, weeks or months is boring and the patient who goes on the number seven diet goes through a period of binging following the period of this brown rice fast. This causes their condition to sometimes deteriorate. This is the reason why most people who tried the #7 diet left macrobiotics altogether out of frustration and despair, thinking that macrobiotics will not work for them.

Their choice of foods was not the right one for their condition(s).

George Ohsawa & the macrobiotic diet number seven #7  

George Ohsawa himself, who devised the number seven diet (#7), advised against going on the macrobiotics number #7 diet later on in his life. He said:

... no one can live in this modern life without vegetables because life now is too polluted on every level ...
